We Finally Have The Answer To How Often You Should Wash Your Bedsheets

We can become easily complacent when it comes to washing our bedsheets. It’s a lengthy process that needs special care because of the sheer size of the cloth and the material. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that unwashed bedsheets are going to have some potentially harmful effects, but are we truly aware of how harmful they can be?  We never think about washing our bedsheets as much as we think about washing our clothes when in reality we do spend every single day on our bedsheets for approximately 8 hours a day! That’s plenty of time for dust, dirt, dead skin cells, sweat and many other things to build up and cause a problem in the future.

There are many factors to take into account to answer this question, and in reality, it can differ from household to household based on these factors. These include the following:

  1. Material of the bedsheets

  2. The amount of time you spend on the bed

  3. How much you sweat

  4. Oils from your skin

  5. Sensual activities

  6. Showering before bed

  7. Drooling during sleep

  8. Pets sleeping with you

The Answer

Clean bedsheets are always a part of good home furnishing. Experts say that you must wash your sheets at least once every week. While this is the general rule of thumb, this is dependant on the above-mentioned factors. For example, if you sleep with a pet, then washing, changing your bedsheets every 3-4 days is recommended. Even in cases of excessive sweating, or eating on the bed, you will need to wash your bedsheets more frequently.

Factors That Require Frequent Washing

Certain factors like having allergies or sensitive skin, asthma, excessive sweating, not showering before sleeping, eating on the bed and also spending lots of time on the bed is likely to make it dirtier than usual and will need frequent washing.

Tips To Wash Your Bedsheets

Read The label. This will tell you what kind of fabric your bedsheet is made of and it will provide clarity on how to wash it. Cotton bedsheets are the most convenient to wash. Cotton has a high tensile strength which makes it strong and durable. It can withstand high temperatures. it will have a good hold up when it is repeatedly washed. There is no need to spend hours drying or trying to iron it. It also has excellent colour retention which makes it easy to dye. You can wash your bedsheets knowing that the colour is not going to fade off easily. The Bella Casa bedsheet is 100% cotton and of the highest quality.

Don’t Overload the Washing Machine. Even though it may take one extra washing, don’t stuff the washing machine with too many bedsheets and added clothes. This may prevent the bedsheets from getting a thorough wash and may cause the dirt to still stay on the fabric.

Detergent. Make sure you don’t use too much, or too little detergent. Usually, the machine requirement will show you where the detergent should be placed and how much for the weight that is going in. too much soap could cause the sheets to wear out fast. Normally a quarter of a cup of detergent is more than enough to make sure the bedsheets are cleaned completely.

The right temperature. Normally bedsheets don’t require a heavy wash because most hot temperatures do exactly what is needed. Cotton bedsheets can withstand high temperatures, hence the hot water is able to kill all the germs and dust mites.

Extra sets of bedsheets. It’s always good to have at least 3-4 sets of bedsheets in your house, so you always have a fresh set while the previous one has gone for a wash. Additionally, it’s always refreshing to have a new look in your bedroom to remove the mundane atmosphere.

A bedsheet left unwashed for too long, can cause dead skin cells to build upon the surface and can result in allergies and itchiness on our skin. This also leads to breakouts and can cause severe acne. Bedrooms are an integral part of our homes. They are the place we rest at the end of the day, and where we spend quality time with loved ones. We want this area of our house to look as clean and beautiful as possible.
