Tips To Remove Stains From Your Bedsheets
None of us are perfect, and mistakes happen to everybody. Mistakes happen by little children who are not careful eating on the bed, and mistakes happen by the same parents who shout at their children for staining the bed. It’s human nature! We can’t always be in control of everything, but we can fix the little accidents we have from time to time. Here are certain tips you can keep in mind to remove stains from bedsheets.
Act fast
We tend to become lazy when it comes to removing stains mainly because we don’t know how to do it. It can be tempting to leave smaller stains unattended until the next routine wash, however acting immediately can make all the difference to removing the stubborn stain. Begin by rinsing the area with cold water. Hot water will set the stain, hence using cold water is key.
Baking Powder
Baking powder has many quirky uses and can come in handy while trying to remove a stain. It is one of the most basic ways to remove stains. This is because it helps draw the stain out of the fabric and traps it inside the baking soda itself. As the paste dries, it removes the stain.
To make a baking soda paste, mix one part baking soda and two parts of water. Once this forms a thick paste, apply it to the already damp and stained area. Wait for this to dry completely. Once this is done, brush off the paste and put the sheets through the washing machine, on a cold water setting.
If your sheets have already dried, then soak the sheets for around 8 hours. This will help loosen up the stain. Then apply the baking soda paste.
Vinegar
Lots of stains can be slightly acidic in nature. Whether it be sweat, or grass, red wine or juice. This means that they will dissolve in the presence of another acid, like vinegar. Many people make a paste of out vinegar and baking powder for really stubborn stains. Vinegar can be harmful to delicate fabrics if it is too concentrated, hence you should be careful while using it.
White vinegar is also great for eliminating the odours that come with the stain. It can tend to leave a smell of its own, but once you put them for a wash and dry them, the scent will disappear.
Oil-Based Stains
These stains require a different approach. Oil-based stains need to be dealt with hot water instead of cold, as that will loosen up the stain. Water will not help in removing the stain itself, because water and oil do not mix. However, the heat will help. Synthetic fibres like polyester are often tough to treat, because oil is attracted to them. However cotton bedsheets, like the Bella Casa bedsheets, can be easier to treat.
The first thing you must do is sprinkle baking soda on the affected area and allow it to sit for 24 hours. This will help the baking soda to absorb the oil. After it has dried, brush the baking soda away. Second, spray the area with a vinegar and water solution. After this scrub with soap and a brush, and then rinse. If the stain persists then you can repeat the process.
Blood Stains
As soon as you notice the stain, run it under cold water. This is essential because hot water will lock in the stain. There are many ways to remove blood stains and one of the most effective is salt. Take some salt and rub it into the stain and then soak the sheet in cold water. Salt has dehydrating properties and it will help lift up the water and the blood. You can also make a paste of baking soda and water, and let it sit for 30 mins before washing.
Bedrooms are an integral part of our homes. They are the place we rest at the end of the day, and where we spend quality time with loved ones. We want this area of our house to look as clean and beautiful as possible. Next time you have a stain on one of your favourite bedsheets, you know exactly how to remove them.
